OVERVIEW

The Manaslu Circuit Trek (15 Days) is one of Nepal’s most spectacular and less-crowded Himalayan trekking routes, circling around the world’s eighth-highest peak, Mount Manaslu (8,163m). Managed within the restricted Manaslu Conservation Area, this trek offers a perfect blend of raw natural beauty, rich Tibetan-influenced culture, and challenging high-altitude adventure.

The journey begins with a scenic drive from Kathmandu to the lower Budhi Gandaki Valley, where the trail gradually ascends through lush forests, terraced fields, waterfalls, and traditional villages such as Machha Khola, Jagat, Deng, Namrung, Samagaon, and Samdo. As you move higher, the landscape transforms into alpine terrain with breathtaking views of snow-capped peaks like Manaslu, Himalchuli, Ngadi Chuli, and Ganesh Himal.

A major highlight of this trek is crossing the Larke La Pass (5,106m), one of the most dramatic and challenging mountain passes in Nepal. From the top, trekkers are rewarded with panoramic Himalayan views before descending toward the beautiful Bimthang valley and eventually joining the Annapurna region.

This trek is ideal for experienced trekkers seeking a remote, off-the-beaten-path adventure with fewer crowds compared to Everest or Annapurna routes. Along the way, trekkers experience ancient monasteries, Buddhist prayer flags, yak pastures, and warm local hospitality that reflects the unique Himalayan lifestyle.

The Manaslu Circuit Trek is not just a journey through mountains—it is a complete cultural and natural Himalayan experience that stays with you forever.

Day 3: Drive from Kathmandu to Machha Khola (870m)

Early morning departure from Kathmandu. The journey follows scenic highways, river valleys, terraced fields, and hillside villages. You will pass through Arughat/Soti Khola before reaching Machha Khola. Overnight stay in a teahouse by the river.

Day 4: Trek from Machha Khola to Jagat (1,340m)

The trek begins along the Budhi Gandaki River. The trail includes narrow paths, suspension bridges, hot springs, and small settlements. After several ups and downs through lush forests and rocky trails, you arrive at Jagat, a traditional stone-paved village and entry point to the restricted area.

Day 5: Trek from Jagat to Deng (1,860m)

After permit checks, the trail gradually ascends through beautiful forested landscapes and small Gurung and Tibetan-influenced villages. You cross suspension bridges and pass waterfalls and terraced fields before reaching Deng village, a quiet settlement surrounded by hills and rivers.

Day 6: Trek from Deng to Namrung (2,630m)

The trail becomes more alpine and culturally rich. You pass through villages like Bihi and Ghap, entering a region strongly influenced by Tibetan Buddhism. The landscape changes dramatically with views of Himal Chuli and other peaks. Namrung is a beautiful village with traditional houses and monasteries.

Day 7: Trek from Namrung to Lho Gaun / Shyala (3,180–3,500m)

Today’s trail offers breathtaking mountain scenery. You pass through forests, mani walls, and stone villages. At Lho Gaun, you can visit Ribung Monastery and enjoy stunning views of Mt. Manaslu. Optionally, continue to Shyala for even wider panoramic views of surrounding peaks.

Day 8: Trek to Samagaon (3,530m)

A relatively moderate trekking day leads to Samagaon, one of the largest villages in the region. The trail provides outstanding views of Manaslu, glaciers, and alpine landscapes. Samagaon is culturally rich, with monasteries and traditional stone houses.

Day 9: Acclimatization Day at Samagaon (3,530m)

This is an important rest and acclimatization day. You can explore nearby attractions such as Birendra Lake, a glacial lake with turquoise water, or hike towards Manaslu Base Camp for dramatic glacier and mountain views. This helps your body adjust to high altitude.

Day 10: Trek from Samagaon to Samdo (3,860m)

The trail becomes more barren and alpine as you move closer to the Tibetan border. You pass yak pastures and dry landscapes. Samdo is a small settlement close to the Tibetan frontier, offering unique cultural insights and high mountain views.

A short but important ascent leads to Dharmasala, also known as Larke Phedi. This is the base for crossing Larke La Pass. The rest of the day is used for preparation and rest before the challenging pass crossing.

Day 12: Cross Larke La Pass (5,106m) → Bimthang (3,720m)

The most challenging and rewarding day of the trek. Early morning ascent to Larke La Pass (5,106m) offers stunning panoramic views of Himalayas, glaciers, and rugged peaks. After spending some time at the top, you descend carefully to Bimthang, a beautiful valley surrounded by mountains.

Day 13: Trek from Bimthang to Tilije (2,300m)

After the high-altitude adventure, the trail descends through lush forests, rivers, and villages. The air becomes warmer, and vegetation increases. Tilije is a peaceful village with traditional homes and warm hospitality.
